Informed circles have revealed that the Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abd al-Latif Darian, dealt a “political slap” to harirism, whether he meant it and identified himself with Saudi Arabia or not, but what happened confirms that the Harirism suffered a setback in Akkar, Tripoli, Rashaya and Baalbek-Hermel. The circles revealed that, despite the announcement by the “Future Movement” and its secretary general, Ahmed Hariri, that they remained on “neutrality”, Hariri waged a “fierce battle” to succeed Sheikh Osama al-Rifai as Akkar, and lost to Mufti candidate Sheikh Zaid Bakkar Zakaria. As for Tripoli, Hariri fought the “battle” of Sheikh Samir Kamal Al-Din, who withdrew the night before the elections which took place two days ago (Sunday).
Circles reveal that Justice Kamal El-Din’s withdrawal came on the basis of an agreement whose godfather was Representative Faisal Karami, who supported and trusted Kamal El-Din and had 28 votes in the electoral college. Circles have indicated that Karami pushed Kamal Al-Din to withdraw and strengthened the position of Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Imam, who is supported by Mufti Darian and President-designate Najib Mikati, and he is also not far from Saudi Arabia. Thus, Karami marked a milestone and satisfied the Mufti and Saudi Arabia, and kept the lines open, awaiting the crystallization of the status of his Sunni and national bloc, which he intends to announce in Tripoli and in the North.
