Derailed tram in Utrecht has been lifted off the road and salvaged, one tram set is back on track | Utrecht

The tram derailed this morning after riding a van from the Jumbo supermarket. It was dragged a few meters away by the tram, which itself came to a halt partly at right angles to the Laan van Maarschalkerweerd. This road was closed all day. Carrier U-OV deployed replacement buses. No one was injured in the accident.

Now that the tram has been hoisted away, the vehicles of the emergency services that carried out the hoisting operation are still standing on Laan van Maarschalkerweerd for the time being. When they are gone too, the way can be opened up again. It is still unclear how great the damage is to the trams, the rails and the overhead lines. When at this point the trams will be able to pass again, therefore, remains the question for the time being.
