Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov Assures Former Nissan Plant Will Remain with AvtoVAZ Despite US Sanctions

Denis Manturov assured that the former Nissan plant will not be taken away from AvtoVAZ

Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov denied rumors about the possible transfer of the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg, now owned by AvtoVAZ, to another owner. Despite the imposition of US sanctions against AvtoVAZ, the government does not plan to seize production facilities from the Russian automaker.

Thus, despite the unsuccessful experience of localizing the Chinese FAW Bestune T77 crossover under the Lada X-Cross 5 brand, the government does not intend to hastily seize assets from AvtoVAZ. Experts believe that in the near future the production of popular Lada models will be launched at the St. Petersburg site. AvtoVAZ will continue to search for an optimal model for the development of its production capacities, despite external pressure.

The localization project for the Chinese crossover FAW Bestune T77 initially raised many questions among experts. The model chosen was not the most modern. As a result, even after the launch of the conveyor, sales never began. Now the management of AvtoVAZ faces a difficult task – to launch production in St. Petersburg of a model that is in demand on the Russian market. This will probably be one of the existing or upcoming Lada cars. (photo: Lada)

At the same time, it recently became known about the creation of another automobile alliance. The Chinese company Geely has decided to unite such brands as Jaguar, Lotus, Volov and Polestar under its wing.
