Deputy Chairman Calls for One-Round 2024 Presidential Election for Prabowo-Gibran, Citing Geopolitical Concerns

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Deputy Chairman of the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka National Campaign Team (TKN) Expert Council, Budiman Sudjatmiko, said that the 2024 presidential election must run in one round for Prabowo-Gibran.

This was expressed by Budiman at the “Ngobar Biru Ceria-02” event at the Prabowo-Gibran Volunteer Secretariat, Kemanggisan, Palmerah, West Jakarta, Thursday (4/1/2024).

“If we want to think strategically, one round is not an option, but a necessity,” said Budiman.

Budiman said, in 2024, several strategic countries will also hold general elections (elections) so that they have the potential to influence world geopolitics.

He said countries such as Taiwan, Russia, England, India and the United States were also holding elections this year.

“We also have to know that in the world there are dozens of countries that want to hold elections, including Taiwan, Russia, America, England and India. Therefore, we must not fumble with uncertainty,” said Budiman.

With Prabowo’s experience, Budiman believes that Prabowo will provide more certainty amidst geopolitical dynamics.

“Pak Prabowo has that experience,” said Budiman.

Budiman also revealed his reasons for supporting Prabowo, even though he had to be fired as a cadre of PDI-P, the party that supports candidate pair Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.

“The only aspect to support Pak Prabowo is the geopolitical aspect,” said Budiman.

Budiman also said that if the 2024 presidential election runs in two rounds, he considers it a waste of time in designing geopolitics and geostrategy.

“The legacies, the big projects that have been given by Mr. Jokowi (President Joko Widodo), which Mr. Prabowo has envisioned in the world, are where our partners will change,” said Budiman.

“Our strategic partners will change when (there are) changes to IKN (Capital of the Archipelago), regarding downstreaming. “We have to admit (we) still need friends who we can still chat with in a country where they still don’t know who the leader is,” said Budiman.

Budiman said that downstreaming, digitalization, decarbonization, village optimization, and human resource (HR) development are big projects that Prabowo wants to undertake.
