Deputy Catalina Pérez Enlists Prominent Lawyers in Response to Live Democracy Case

In the midst of the scandal over the Live Democracy Case, the deputy for the Antofagasta region, Catalina Pérez (RD), decided to take legal advice and signed up the lawyers Gonzalo Medina and Sebastián Dal Pozo -from the homonymous firm, Dal Pozzo y Medina-, as reported by La Tercera.

It should be noted that as part of the first proceedings in the case -which involves the former housing minister, Carlos Contreras and the ex-partner of the deputy and representative of the questioned foundation-, the Investigative Police (PDI) raided the house that Pérez shared with Andrade.

Now, about the lawyers, it should be noted that Medina is a lawyer from the University of Chile and a professor of criminal law at that university. He was also the national head of studies for the Public Criminal Defender’s Office (DPP) and has extensive experience in dealing with complex criminal cases.

Meanwhile, Dal Pozzo is a lawyer from the Diego Portales University and a diploma in Criminal Procedure Reform and Oral Litigation from the same university. In addition, he was chief lawyer of the judicial area of the Ministry of the Interior and was part of the Court Unit of the South Metropolitan Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Both officiated as defense lawyers for Pablo Wanger, former Mining Undersecretary in the first government of Sebastián Piñera, in the framework of the Penta Case. The ex-authority was convicted of tax crimes, but acquitted of bribery.

It must be remembered that the parliamentarian is not facing any criminal case, since she does not have the status of defendant or witness in the investigation carried out by the Antofagasta Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The Public Ministry, however, has stated that Pérez is a “focus of interest” in the investigation.
