Deputies without consensus to continue knowing US$500 million loan

Deputies of the Congress of the Republic again scheduled the initiative to approve a millionaire loan, which will be up to 500 million dollars. However, it seems that there is no longer a consensus and they no longer met this Wednesday.

Deputies of the Congress of the Republic agreed that for this Wednesday they would be learning in the plenary session of Congress during the plenary session the initiative that allows the loan with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, called Loan for Development Policies for Response and Recovery in the Face of the Crisis in Guatemala.

The loan is for 500 million dollars.

However, for reasons that are still unclear, the consensus between the benches was broken at the last moment and the plenary session was not held.

However, the head of the pro-government caucus, deputy Carlos Calderón, continues to defend the loan, saying that it does not generate more debt, but that it is of benefit to the country.

This initiative was presented by the Executive Branch, and according to the deputy president of the Finance Commission, it does not represent more debt for the country, but rather it is only a change in financing that helps reduce interest costs.

The Public Finance authorities said that with the use of these resources it is estimated that savings for the State finances of 4.0% per year could be generated, as a result of the financial conditions offered in the credit under this bill that has an estimated rate of 0.75% per year.

The deputies of the Congress of the Republic already knew the initiative last week in the first and second reading and when they reach the moment of approval, it must be achieved with at least 81 votes in favor, otherwise, the initiative would be shelved.
