The Legislative Assembly approved this Friday to reform the Law of the Fire Department of El Salvador, to regulate the working hours of the operational personnel of said institution, which is intended to provide better service in the care of all kinds of emergencies. , for the benefit of the population.
The reform to article 25 of the aforementioned law establishes that operational firefighters will carry out their duties in continuous 24-hour shifts, which include the respective breaks to eat their food, as well as a rest period of 72 consecutive hours at the end of each work shift.
Deputy Evelyn Merlos explained that the services provided by the Fire Department are classified as essential for the population, so they should not be interrupted, so as not to endanger the life, health, safety and social well-being of the population. that may be affected during an accident or any other type of emergency.
Until now, the Fire Department Law of El Salvador establishes that operational personnel, that is, the elements that directly respond to fires and other accidents and emergencies, work 48-hour shifts and rest for five days, which generates, on some occasions, a lack of operational personnel to attend to them more efficiently and uninterruptedly.
