The Political Commission of the Legislative Assembly continues with the interviews to elect the new magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice. The parliamentarians have until September 26 to elect and swear in the list of candidates for the 2024-2027 Legislature.
The working group received the following lawyers: Miguel Elias Martinez Cortez, Henry Alexander Mejia, Martha Alicia Ochoa Aragon, Linda Jacel Peraza Fuentes, Alejandro Antonio Quinteros Espinoza and Vicente Alexander Rivas Romero. In total, there are 30 who participated in this process, but only 5 will be chosen.
The first person interviewed was Martínez Cortez, who said that there is currently a “delayed justice” in El Salvador and this is due to the lack of collaboration between State institutions. In this regard, he said that it is important for him that all institutions, such as the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Civil Police (PNC) and the Judicial Branch, are in common agreement.
Martha Alicia Ochoa Aragón was another of the candidates interviewed. She stressed the need to prepare a technical diagnosis to understand the real conditions of the institution, to know how many resources it has and to overcome administrative bureaucracy. “Only if justice is of quality can the rule of law be legitimized,” said Ochoa.
Alejandro Antonio Quinteros Espinoza, candidate for the CSJ, said that there is a need for the CSJ to use information and communication technologies to adapt to the current reality. He proposed the creation of an electronic judicial file that allows online access, auditing and generating automated reports, reducing time and costs.
