Mexico City, In just over three and a half hours, the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies generally approved the General Law of Electoral Institutions and Procedures, which regulates the election of judges, magistrates and ministers, established in the recent constitutional reform to the Judicial Branch of the Federation.
With 336 votes in favor of Morena, the Labor Party (PT) and the Green Ecologist of Mexico (PVEM), as well as 123 votes against legislators from the National Action Party (PAN), the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and the Citizen Movement (MC).
Reservations were submitted to fifteen articles of this legislation, as well as to seven transitional articles that must still be debated in plenary.
With the approved reform, it seeks to establish the procedure for electing judges, magistrates and ministers by popular vote, and defines the elements for the preparation of said election, as well as for the call, nomination of candidates, election day, calculations and summation, election campaigns and qualifications.
The federal deputies will subsequently debate and vote on the modifications to the General Law of the System of Means of Impeachment, which determines the causes of nullity in the election of judging persons and seeks to guarantee that those who participate in the electoral process for the renewal of public positions of the Judicial Branch of the Federation, have an effective jurisdictional resource.
