Deputies fought fiercely in the plenary hall VIDEO

A session of the Armenian parliament was interrupted today due to a fight between deputies, AFP reports.

During today’s parliamentary session, opposition members began throwing bottles of water at Nikol Pashinyan, a member of the Civil Contract party.

The incident escalated into a brawl that forced the speaker of parliament to stop discussions and call for help from security. Bottles of water and disinfectants were taken out of the hall.

A resumption of the meeting led to a second brawl after an opposition lawmaker was interrupted by cries from his critics.

An MP from Pashinyan’s party then tried to hit an opposition colleague, causing chaos.

Several deputies were taken out of the guard, and one of them was hospitalized for an injured eye.

In Armenia, the defeat in last year’s conflict with Azerbaijan still causes great bitterness. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has come under serious criticism from the Armenian opposition over the military defeat.

However, Pashinyan’s party won a landslide victory in the June snap parliamentary elections, which were called after months of protests.
