The election of a new BNB Governor is on the final straight. The deputies are deciding whether Lubomir Karimanski will head the National Bank. The MP from “There is such a people” remained the only candidate for the post, after the candidate of “We continue the Change” – Andrey Gyurov officially declared his refusal.
In order for Lubomir Karimanski to be elected, he must receive the support of half of the deputies after their last registration. If he does not collect enough votes, the current Governor Dimitar Radev will remain at the head of the BNB, and the procedure for electing a new one will start again.
The regular session of the National Assembly began with declarations
“Those who were in the previous two parliaments know how Mr. Karimanski revised almost the entire budget so that we would not do something stupid in the National Assembly with ill-considered proposals. He has experience in banking. He has been in Bulgarian and foreign banks. The candidate is a professional and has shown before your eyes what he can do, “said Toshko Yordanov from ITN.
“You have to apologize to two people in this room. One is Gurov, because you allowed him to be humiliated, because 20 days in the first procedure you did not think of his brilliant candidacy. The second person is Mr. Karimanski, because you allowed yourself the same. This will be a supreme demonstration of how the coalition cannot make a decision, “said Desislava Atanasova of GERB.
Vazrazhdane noted that they are firmly against the adoption of the euro, because it will invalidate the position of head of the BNB. “Every party must have a clear position. For several years now, all political parties have been demonstrating their Euro-Atlantic commitment to joining the Eurozone. Given that Bulgaria adopts the euro, the position of head of the BNB becomes almost redundant. We are against the introduction of the euro. This is one of the most difficult topics in our society. We are currently discussing a candidacy for BNB governor. It is not normal to be in real business all your life and to be for entering the Eurozone “, said Tsoncho Ganev from Vazrazhdane.
GERB stated that it would not support Gyurov because it was a proposal of “We continue the Change”. “In principle, this is not the right concept. No political figure had to be named. First, Karimanski was sharply attacked by “We Continue Change” and attacked on moral grounds. Any such attack is speculative. We will not allow ourselves to offend anyone, but we will look at the procedure from a political point of view. We would not support Gyurov because it was a proposal of “We continue the Change”. Only a month ago, our leader was arrested on the orders of Kiril Petkov, and thus our dialogue with them is over, “said Toma Bikov of GERB.
