Deputies call on the director of the BABH to answer questions about the plague – 2024-08-13 06:43:18

Tomorrow, August 14, the director of BABH, Svetlozar Patarinski, will participate in a meeting of the parliamentary committee on agriculture, food and forests.

The committee convenes from 2:30 p.m. with a single item on the agenda: “Hearing of the executive director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency in connection with the danger of plague spreading among small ruminants and the measures taken to prevent its entry into the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria.“

Sheep and goat plague has already affected many flocks in neighboring Romania and Greece, and the intention of the veterinary authorities to prevent the viral disease from entering our territory is extremely challenging. In 2018, the plague entered our country from Turkey, and the first animals it struck were in the village of Voden, Yambolsko, which was badly affected by a fire less than a month ago.

Despite the proximity of plague outbreaks in neighboring countries, Bulgaria did not close its borders to the import of live animals, as Croatia did, although it did take measures for strict border control and supervision of Bulgarian livestock farms.
