Deputies approve surgeries for women with breast cancer

MEXICALI BC DECEMBER 29, 2020 (AFN) .- Deputies approve a law reform so that women who suffered from breast cancer can receive breast reconstruction when they do not have the financial resources to perform the surgery.

The initiative was presented by the deputies Montserrat Caballero Ramírez and Elí Topete Robles, which is part of the creation of health programs and campaigns such as the one called ‘Touch yourself so that it does not touch you’, aimed at the prevention and early detection of cancer of mother.

The president of the Political Coordination Board and the Health Commission, Montserrat Caballero, pointed out that this agreement aims to sensitize citizens on the importance of increasing attention to this health problem.

“Implementing actions and programs with the intention of prevention and early detection of this disease are absolutely necessary in order to provide a better quality of life for our citizens,” he said.

According to information provided by the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (Inegi), Baja California is in the group of states with the highest mortality rates from breast cancer in Mexico.

In 2018, the entity registered 272 deaths of this type, in 20 17 they added 202, in 2016 192 died, and in 2015 there were 215 women who lost the battle. At the same time, the national mortality rate is exceeded, which represents 17.19 deaths per 100 thousand women aged 20 years or over.

“This step of the XXIII Legislature is a reminder for Baja California women that they are not alone and that the government takes the necessary actions to contribute to their physical and emotional health,” said Deputy Caballero Ramírez.
