Deputies approve contract to buy 9.9 million vaccines from Pfizer

The Chamber of Deputies approved on Monday the agreement to purchase 9.9 million doses of vaccines against COVID-19 from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, for an amount of almost 120 million dollars.

With this approval in the Lower House, the agreement between the Dominican Republic and the company is finalized, since the agreement was approved last week by the Senate.

This contract will replace the previous binding specifications approved at the beginning of the year, but the obligations are the same assumed by the Government.

In the agreement now there is an increase of 2,000,115 doses over the 7,999,875 that were agreed in January. Additional doses represent an added cost of $ US24,001,380.

In total, 9,999,990 doses of its BNT162b2 vaccine, developed with BioNTech, would be purchased from Pfizer for a total cost of US $ 119,999,880.

In his letter sent to Eduardo Estrella, president of the Senate, President Luis Abinader argued that with the increase in doses, it is intended that a greater quantity reach the country in each of the periodically supplied batches.
