INDOZONE.ID – A 16 year old girl from Eliat, Israel, has a tragic fate.
She was raped in turns by at least 30 men in a hotel. Worse, dozens of men were even willing to stand in line to enjoy the girl’s body.
Reporting from AFP, this case sparked public anger and held a demonstration on Thursday (20/8/2020).
The public thinks that the police are moving slowly in solving the case. In fact, the victim had already reported what happened a week ago.
“Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident that occurred in Eilat involving a 16 year old girl,” Israeli Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP on Friday (21/8/2020).
The incident of the girl raped by 30 men has even received the spotlight from the government.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also demanded that all perpetrators be dragged to court to be held accountable for their actions.
“This is shocking, there is no other word for it. This is not just a crime against a young girl, but a crime against humanity that deserves criticism from all of us, “he said.
Meanwhile, President Reuven Rivlin also wrote an open letter to Israeli youth.
“Sexual harassment, rape, sexual exploitation, sexual violence, are stains that cannot be removed. This is a case of an unforgivable loss of boundaries and they have destroyed us as a society, as humans, “he said.
The activist for women’s rights group HaStickeriot, Ilana Weizman, says one in five Israeli women have been raped and that every day 260 cases are reported.
Last year, a 19-year-old British woman claimed to have been raped by 12 Israeli men, aged 15 to 18, at a hotel in Cyprus.
He was later found guilty of lying about the mass rape and given a 4 month probation.
The case has been criticized by women’s rights groups, the victim’s lawyer saying she is appealing her sentence.
