Deposits grow 16.8% and credit 4% in I quarter – Diario La Tribuna

Bank deposits showed a year-on-year increase of 54,435.8 million lempiras (16.8%), while as of March 26, 2020 it was 30,901.6 million (10.6%), according to financial system indicators at the end of March 2021.

The result was derived from the growth in national currency of 46,901.4 million lempiras (20.2%) and in foreign currency of 7,534.4 million (8.3%). Deposits captured by private companies increased year-on-year by 15.9 percent and households by 17.5 percent.

Meanwhile, the collection in foreign currency of companies grew 8.6 percent (in recent months shows a slowdown in growth) and households 8.1 percent.

Between March 19, 2020 and March 25, 2021, deposits from private companies were received mainly from the sectors of commerce (34.0%), service (25.9%), energy (20.1%), industry (16.6%) and real estate (4.1%).

By instrument, the collection in savings deposits represents 49.4% of the total (47.2% on a similar date in 2020), term 27.1% (30.7% in 2020) and checking account 19.2% (17.0% the previous year).

Total deposits total 377,538.3 million lempiras, 6,623.1 million higher than what was captured at the end of 2020 (60.0% of nominal GDP). The balance of deposits captured by households was 224,313.6 million, representing 59.4 percent of the total, while private companies reflected 153,224.7 million lempiras, 40.6 percent of the total.

For its part, the balance of credit to the private sector, as of March 25, 2021, was 362,929.7 million lempiras, 5,158.9 million higher than that registered in December 2020 (57.6% of nominal GDP).

The credit owed by private companies reached a balance of 202,406.2 million lempiras, representing 55.8 percent of the total; while households registered 160,523.5 million, 44.2 percent of the total.

Credit to the private sector showed a year-on-year increase of L13,895.6 million (4.0%) compared to that registered on a similar date in 2020, when it increased L25,356.8 million (7.8%).
