Deposed Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir escaped from the Koper prison north of Khartoum, accompanied by a large number of prisoners.
Note that Omar Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir is a military and statesman, former president of Sudan. He came to power in 1989 as a result of a military coup, having been in office for over 30 years. At the same time, he was also removed as a result of the coup d’état that took place in Sudan in April 2019.
During the years of his rule, Sudan underwent the Islamization of the state apparatus and turned into a pariah country, which was accused of ethnic cleansing in the province of Darfur.
On July 21, 2008, a court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for al-Bashir on charges of genocide in connection with the conflict in Darfur. Thus, al-Bashir became the first incumbent president in the world against whom an accusation was brought by an international justice body.
Earlier it was reported that the Koper prison was attacked. The former leaders of Omar al-Bashir’s regime, including himself, are serving their terms in it.
We add that the armed forces of Sudan said that they managed to suppress the coup attempt in the country, but hostilities will continue.
