ChatGPT has a strong impact on education

Workshop “Application of AI in Learning”, by ChatGPT on education is the opening content of the program organized by the International University (National University of Ho Chi Minh City).

According to Dr Le Duy Tan, there is no denying the benefits that artificial intelligence (AI) or ChatGPT brings to education. This includes the personalization of learning according to the needs and objectives of each student, the storage of documents allowing rapid and efficient research, easy to use, saving time, etc.

However, he believes that concerns about students losing their ability to think creatively because of AI and ChatGPT are entirely valid. The education system is heavily impacted by AI and ChatGPT.

Over-reliance on technology can reduce learners’ thinking and creativity. Overuse of ChatGPT can reduce the ability to understand and empathize with the emotions of others, due to the lack of real, deep interaction.

The AioT Vietnam Lab co-founder said that ChatGPT being able to collect and store users’ personal information without consent would threaten privacy and lead to information insecurity.

“If people constantly rely on ChatGPT to solve problems, they may lose the ability to solve problems and develop problem-solving skills. Although not all ChatGPT answers are accurate. And this leads to negative consequences on learning as well as future career,” said Dr Le Duy Tan.

Dos and Don’ts of ChatGPT in Learning

You should take advantage of ChatGPT to optimize and personalize learning as a tool to provide reminders, refine responses, and create summary feedback. You should definitely use your thinking, analytical and reasoning skills when approaching academic questions and information created by ChatGPT.

ChatGPT sometimes helps us to write an impressive email, summarizing in-depth knowledge of the topic. And it can be a very effective spelling and grammar checking tool.

However, there are many things that should not be abused, including using ChatGPT to write a thesis as it is a “breach of academic integrity”.

“It can be said that ChatGPT is only the first stage of the technological revolution, causing impacts and concerns on education, especially on thinking skills,” said Dr Le Duy Tan.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Duc Anh Vu, Vice President of International University (National University of Ho Chi Minh City), in addition to creating an environment that encourages students to develop creative thinking and put into practice their problem-solving skills, this year’s Innovation Week also opens up opportunities for students to access new ideas, interact and learn from experienced experts in many fields.

“This is an opportunity to connect creative startup ecosystems inside and outside the school, in the city and in neighboring provinces. Through the week’s activities, students gain access to basic sustainability knowledge, emotional intelligence and important digital skills, supporting their future academic and industrial development,” shared Dr. Anh Vu .

Artificial intelligence (AI) is not only a purely technical tool capable of producing “divine” results, but it is also reshaping the Earth.
