Depeche Mode ‘Memento Mori’ World Tour: Dave Gahan and Martin Gore in Hamburg After Andrew Fletcher’s Death

Depeche Mode has been on a “Memento Mori” world tour for almost a year. On Saturday Dave Gahan and Martin Gore will be guests in Hamburg after a long break.

After Andrew Fletcher’s (†60) death in 2022, Dave Gahan (61) and Martin Gore (62) will continue to run Depeche Mode as a duo. The motto of their tour, which includes more than 100 concerts, is called “Memento Mori”, like the album released in 2023. “Memento Mori” is Latin for “Remember that you are mortal” – it symbolizes the farewell to Andrew Fletcher and the resulting new beginning.

The start of the new Depeche Mode era was crowned with success in the charts: the album has been on the hit list for 27 weeks so far, two of which were in first place. It took second place in the 2023 annual charts. At the 89 concerts on the tour so far, four of the new songs made it onto the setlist. Dave Gahan and Martin Gore present two of them right at the start of the evening.

Depeche Mode in Hamburg: These songs await the fans

Otherwise, fans can look forward to a colorful bouquet of flowers from more than 40 years of band history. It probably doesn’t surprise anyone that evergreens like “Personal Jesus”, “Enjoy the Silence”, “Just Can’t Get Enough” or “Everything Counts” are still an integral part of a Depeche Mode concert. The British guitarist Rob Marshall aka Humanist is the opening act.

No matter which era of the band’s history fans like best – over the course of the two hour long shows (starting around 8:50 p.m.) everyone who was able to get a ticket will probably be happy. If you weren’t lucky in advance sales, you shouldn’t get your hopes up: there are only a few tickets left at Ticketmaster (as of February 13th). Prices range between 161 euros and 681.50 euros. There is no longer any quota available via Eventim.

Depeche Mode has a long history with Hamburg. On September 25, 1981, the band played their second ever concert outside the UK at the Market Hall. Depeche Mode was last in Hamburg on January 11, 2018 as part of the “Global Sprit Tour”, also at the Barclays Arena.
