Departure hall Brussels Airport evacuated due to suspicious suitcase, but luckily it was a false alarm

The departure hall of Zaventem airport was evacuated around 4 pm this afternoon because a piece of luggage had been left at one of the check-in desks. The police then erred on the side of caution and had the departure hall vacated; all present had to leave the hall.

The DOVO demining service came to check the suspicious piece of luggage. He determined that there was nothing wrong with the piece of luggage. The departure hall was then reopened. Brussels Airport reports this around 5.45 pm.

Due to the eviction, a number of flights were delayed by one and a half to two hours, but no flights were cancelled.

It is not known exactly how many people were present, but an airport spokeswoman said it was fairly busy in the airport building this afternoon.
