Departmental Vaccination Day: Vaccination against Rotavirus and Other Diseases for Children and Adults

Rotavirus is the causative agent of most cases of diarrheal disease with severe dehydration.

The Ministry of Public Health and the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) will carry out tomorrow, Saturday, August 26, the Departmental Vaccination Day, in alliance with the IPS and EPS of the city, in order to strengthen vaccination coverage in children under 6 years, especially with the biological Rotavirus in children under 2 and 4 months and offer vaccination against seasonal influenza strain 2023 and vaccination against Covid-19 in authorized populations.

Rotavirus is the causative agent of most cases of diarrheal disease with severe dehydration. It is estimated that all boys and girls suffer from this condition by the time they reach two or three years of age. The most common symptoms are profuse diarrhea, fever, and vomiting, and about 2% develop severe dehydration. Many cases can lead to death if they are not treated promptly. The most efficient form of prevention is found in the vaccine applied at 2 and 4 months of age.

In this regard, Leidy Lisbeth Moreno Meza, Head of the Public Health Unit: “We will have availability of all the biologicals of the regular schedule of the expanded immunization program, we invite all parents to take their children under 6 years of age to start or complete the vaccination schedule”.
