“Department of Tarn’s Summer Exhibition: Embroidery Works by the Poor Clares of Mazamet”

The Department of Tarn is looking for works by the Poor Clares of Mazamet for its summer exhibition at the Departmental Textile Museum in Labastide-Rouairoux. “We are proud to offer diversified exhibitions! All the more so when the people of Tarn contribute to sharing this heritage with as many people as possible,” underlines Christophe Ramond, President of the Departmental Council of the Tarn.
From July 1 to October 8, the Department of Tarn offers an exhibition at the Departmental Textile Museum around the embroidery work of the Poor Clares of Mazamet (from 1887 to 2015). In order to enrich the exhibition, the Department of Tarn is looking for images and clothes that have been made by the Poor Clares for the inhabitants of Mazamet.
Examples of objects made by the Poor Clares: dresses for children, flannel belts, shirts for soldiers (at the beginning of the war), banners, engravings, images of first communicants, pious images depicting the Virgin and Child in monochrome of blue, images of Saint Andrew holding the cross, menus, guest books, jubilee collections, liturgical manuals, portraits and paintings. The various loans will be exhibited at the museum as part of the exhibition.
