The CGT reported yesterday in a press conference that the Department of Education plans to close 21 lines in public educational centers in the Territorial Services of Tarragona for the next year: 13 groups of I3 and 8 groups of 1.º of ESO. With respect to the affected areas, this cut affects the municipalities of Aiguamúrcia, Bràfim, Cambrils, Constantí, la Selva del Camp, Reus, Valls, Vandellòs, Vila-seca, la Canonja, Mont-roig del Camp, Riudoms, Roda de Berà and Tarragona. After learning that, the families, students and workers of Escuela La Vitxeta, continue with the mobilizations to avoid not only the closure of the specific line of their center, but to denounce the closures in public throughout Catalonia.
At the pre-registration gates for the next course, the Association of Mothers and Fathers of Students (AMiPA) of the school, yesterday, participated in an event to explain the actions and mobilizations carried out and to be carried out. The event took place at the premises of the CGT Baix Camp-Priorat Regional Federation. From the union, they also showed their position on this situation. “What we want to denounce is a bit of this trend and this neoliberal and privatizing vision of attack against public schools,” said Jorge Fernàndez, general secretary of CGT. “It is clear that the Department of Education has no interest in improving public education, since, year after year, it continues to cut public groups,” added Fernàndez.
The objective of the press conference was to present a report that they have carried out on the entire closure of lines focused on Camp de Tarragona, where several points stand out, such as the loss of jobs, both teaching staff and leisure staff. and dining room.
The case of the Vixeta
Mercè Vallverdú, president of the AMiPA of Vitxeta, was part of an appearance to show the positioning of the school’s families. They believe that it is not only a thing at their center, but that it affects the entire public school. “The other day, we held the rally in the Market precisely to transfer all this to the city, because it is not something that only affects La Vitxeta,” Vallverdú pointed out. “We thought it was important to put it in the center of the city so that everyone could see it,” she added.
It is not the first mobilization they have done from the AMiPA. Since February 6, the date they learned of the closure of an I3 line, they launched different events, such as banner workshops or the mobilization at the inauguration of the TurisMarket.
Next March 5, they have called a meeting with the director of the Territorial Services of the Department of Education in Tarragona, because what they do not want is to sit idly by and say that they agree with what Educació foresees. “If on the 5th we do not get a satisfactory response from the Department, we will continue organizing events and we will not give up,” explained President Vallverdú.
Tomorrow, a rally with vermouth has been organized at Farinera, an act of protest in defense of public schools. “It is not an act for the school families, even if it is born from the closure, but it is an act in defense of the public school to continue fighting,” recalled Mercè Vallverdú.
