City relies on communication.
The announcement is a little reminiscent of the search for an egg-laying woolly milk sow: The city of Offenburg is looking for a department head “at the earliest possible date” who will bring the areas of business, marketing and communication under one roof. This goes hand in hand with the realignment of the business development and city marketing department previously headed by Hans-Joachim Fomferra. Fomferra will retire in the middle of next year. Then the department is to be supplemented by the “press and public relations” that was previously docked directly to Marco Steffens as a staff unit. According to HR manager Simone Appel, the structures of the city administration are not subject to co-determination, but the municipal council has been informed about the realignment. The announcement is made early enough to allow a good handover before Fomferra’s departure, taking into account any notice periods for possible applicants. Simone Appel thinks that the press and public relations work is integrated in his previous department is appropriate due to the many interfaces: “It makes sense to bundle all of this under one roof.” Nothing will change in the direction of press and public relations work by Florian Würth and city marketing by Stefan Schürlein.
According to the job advertisement, in addition to a university degree in communication sciences or business administration, an applicant should also have knowledge and experience in the field of marketing and / or communication, management experience ideally in the private sector and, in addition to social media know-how, experience in crisis communication. Among other things, “strategies for the future positioning of the city of Offenburg” and the further development of a holistic marketing strategy are required. The new department has 23 employees.
