Denver dominated, winning the first NBA Finals against Miami 104–93.
Denver’s star center Nikola Jokic was the top scorer with 27 points. He also managed a so-called “triple double”, i.e. double figures in three out of four statistical categories, with ten rebounds and 14 assists.
– The most important thing is to win, said Jokic after the game, who scored his ninth “triple double” in this year’s playoffs.
Jokic also had the distinction of becoming the second player in the last 25 years to record ten assists before halftime in a Finals game. LeBron James managed the feat in 2017.
– I try to win the match at any cost, continued the Serbian giant.
Denver, playing in its first ever NBA Finals, takes the lead in the best-of-seven series.
The second final match is played in Denver on the night of Monday, Swedish time.
