Irdeto’s New Denuvo SecureDLC Software Must counter piracy of game DLCs† With a “small and simple” api, security can be added to existing games.
According to Irdeto, circumventing the current security of game platforms such as Steam and Epic takes little effort. Paid content, such as additional in-game characters, weapons and clothing can be obtained for free, which in the case of free-to-play games takes away any form of income.
Denuvo SecureDLC must therefore put an end to this. You may know the name ‘Denuvo’ from the anti-cheat software and copy protection of Resident Evil 2, Hitman 2, Just Cause 3 and a few FIFA games, among others.
Denuvo Software Solutions was acquired in 2018 by Irdeto, an originally Dutch maker of smart card software for cable companies. Irdeto has himself been a victim of piracy before; thanks to cracked coding, TV viewers could receive Ziggo and Canal Digitaal channel packages for free.
