Denounce lack of medicine for children with cancer

More than 30 people demonstrated in front of the facilities of the Children’s Hospital, located in Paseo Colón, to denounce that for a month there is a shortage of medicines to care for children with cancer. Relatives of patients gathered in front of the Hospital to demand a solution, since they consider this puts children’s lives at risk.

The dissatisfied blocked the road for a short time until they were attended by hospital authorities to discuss the problem.

Notably The Human Rights Commission of the State of Mexico has already initiated an ex officio investigation with number CODHEM / TOL / 150/2020, for the alleged shortage of medicines that could violate the right to health of girls and boys.

Health Ministry Responds

For its part, the State Ministry of Health reports that the lack of oncological medications at the Children’s Hospital of the Maternal and Child Institute of the State of Mexico (IMIEM) is due to a nationwide shortage of nine drugs, since At the moment, there are no companies that supply them.

The agency indicates that the governor and the secretary of the branch, permanently carry out the necessary steps to meet this demand.

For the above, They rule out that the shortage is due to the lack of financial resources or administrative issues.

The agency requested support from the Institute of Health for Welfare (Insabi) In order to include these medicines in the international consolidated purchase 2020, some of the keys in short supply are currently being received.

The national public tender made in December 2019, to cover the needs of 2020, was deserted, since No company was able to offer.

It is worth mentioning that these represent 20 percent of the medications to be used in cancer patients, so the annual supply is guaranteed at 80 percent.
