Dennis Spies – Wikipedia

Dennis Edward Spies (born March 5, 1968 in Clifton, Illinois) is an American Roman Catholic clergyman and appointed auxiliary bishop in Joliet, Illinois.

Dennis Spies grew up in Ashkum. He first attended the local elementary school and later the Central High School in Clifton. He then completed studies in agricultural economics at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science. He then worked on his family’s farm in Ashkum and ran a soybean trade. He also worked as a group leader National Evangelization Team (NET). From 1997, Spies studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein. There he received a bachelor’s degree in liturgical studies and a Master of Divinity in 2002. On June 1, 2002 he received in the cathedral St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet by the Bishop of Joliet in Illinois, Joseph Leopold Imesch, the sacrament of ordination for the Diocese of Joliet in Illinois.[1]

After his ordination, Spies initially worked as a parochial vicar of the parish St. Walter in Roselle (2002–2005) and St. Mary Immaculate in Plainfield (2005-2008) before becoming pastor of the parish Our Lady of Lourdes in Gibson City, St. George in Melvin and Immaculate Conception in Roberts. He was also a member of the Priests’ Council of the Diocese of Joliet in Illinois from 2006 to 2011.[1] He also earned his thesis in 2009 after further studies at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake The diocesan priest: called to be a master at relating with God and relating with God’s people (“The diocesan priest: called to be a master of the relationship with God and the people of God”) a licentiate in Catholic theology.[2] From 2013 to 2016, Spies served as chaplain at the Mother Teresa Catholic Academy in Crete, as pastor of the parishes St. Liborius in Steger and St. Mary in Park Forest and as dean of the Will County deanery. Afterwards he was on Mundelein Seminary at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake was responsible for and led the pre-theological studies and coordination of internships (2016-2024). Institute of Priestly Formation (2016-2023). From July 1, 2024, Spies was episcopal vicar for the clergy. He also led the movement’s weekend seminars Christianity Courses and within the program Be Healed employed.[1]

On September 27, 2024, Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Cenculiana and auxiliary bishop in Joliet, Illinois.[3] The ordination of a bishop in the cathedral St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet is scheduled for November 6, 2024.
