At the Knicks, Elfrid Payton and Derrick Rose become unrestricted free agents, while Frank Ntilikina becomes unrestricted. Due to the long relationship between Rose and Head Coach Tom Thibodeau, it is to be expected that the former MVP will be kept, but there should be room for a new starter.
The Toronto Raptors’ Kyle Lowry is high on the Knicks list, according to the report. The 35-year-old will also be unrestricted in the summer and New York would have the financial means to offer more than other interested teams such as the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Lowry isn’t the only point guard on the Knicks radar, though. Dennis Schröder is also on their list, it says in the report; the German could not agree on a new contract with the Lakers ahead of time, so he can theoretically switch anywhere in the offseason.
There is also an offer for restricted free agent Lonzo Ball in the room – the Knicks spoke with the New Orleans Pelicans about a possible deal before the trade deadline, but none came off.
