Dennis Schouten understands ‘absolutely nothing’ about the attitude of the Van der Valk hotel chain. The two parties have been negotiating compensation for weeks after camera images were leaked from the Glanerbrugse presenter in the hotel. The relationship has continued to be tense since a spokesperson for the hotel reacted to the matter in the media yesterday.

The spokesman called it ‘strange’ that Schouten talked about the conflict in his YouTube series: “He comes to us with a lawyer because he doesn’t take it emotionally, then I find it strange that he thought it necessary to pay attention to it”.
A very strange attitude from the hotel chain, says Schouten now. “They have to put on the robes and apologize. They should be ashamed of themselves.” It particularly annoys him that it was suggested online that he had dated a sixteen-year-old girl. “That’s not right, she was 22.”
Leaked images
The case started when Schouten discovered that images are circulating showing him entering a hotel room with someone. It was surveillance footage leaked by a hired security guard.
Since then, Schouten has been negotiating with Van der Valk about a solution. And that was difficult from the start, says Schouten: “They promised one thing over the phone, and another via email. After two weeks, they promised to come up with a proposal on Monday, but then they didn’t say anything.”
The bomb exploded on Wednesday, when Schouten talked about the conflict in his YouTube series Gossip Talk. The Van der Valk spokesperson said that Schouten issued an ultimatum an hour and a half earlier: “He wanted fifteen thousand euros, otherwise he would discuss it”.
That is also not true at all, according to the Glanerbrugger. “They promised to come up with a proposal on Monday, a day before we record the show. They didn’t say anything then. Then I said: ‘We’re going to record our series soon’.”
Fifteen thousand euros
Van der Valk would then have asked him to name an amount, on which Schouten suggested the fifteen thousand. “But they didn’t respond to that, so I discussed it,” said the presenter. “We had been negotiating for over two weeks at the time.”
In any case, it seems that the parties are not going to resolve it among themselves. “No, this will be a lawsuit”, says Schouten.
