Denmark to impose new restrictions against COVID-19 | Europe up to date | DW

Denmark will announce new restriction measures on Monday (12/07/2020) due to the high level of COVID-19 infections, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced on Sunday night, speaking of a “selective semi-confinement” project in the three main cities of the country.

“Following the recommendations we received from the authorities, we have prepared a selective and geographic semi-confinement over the weekend,” the head of the government said in a video released on social media on Sunday night.

These measures will be announced at a press conference on Monday and will be applied in the most affected areas of the Scandinavian country: Copenhagen and several surrounding municipalities, as well as the other two main cities, Aarhus (west) and Odense (center).

“We have to have the infection controlled before Christmas,” he said. Denmark on Sunday announced a daily record of 1,745 cases in 24 hours.

Denmark, which has not managed to curb the increase in infections, already announced on Tuesday that it would reduce the capacity for after-school activities from 50 to 10 and asked to extend teleworking in the Copenhagen region.

These measures followed a first series of restrictions decided at the end of October. at the beginning of the second wave hitting Europe.

With the exception of its autonomous territories of Greenland and the Faroe Islands, where no deaths have yet occurred, Denmark has registered about 90,000 infections and 885 deaths for 5.8 million inhabitants since the beginning of the health crisis. (afp)
