Denmark: The Prime Minister made public the threats she receives on social media – 2024-04-22 01:32:46

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen today went public with hate messages and insults she receives on social media, opening the debate about citizens’ behavior online.

The aggressive tone on social media is nothing new, the 46-year-old prime minister wrote on Instagram today, talking about the content of messages she receives: “Harassment, sexism, abuse, hate and threats.”

“Unfortunately, this is part of everyday life for many,” she stressed, noting that this phenomenon is something that deeply worries her.

Frederiksen spoke about young people participating in television casting shows and receiving racist and hateful messages, about journalists, researchers, civil servants, athletes and politicians, who also receive online threats.

She herself, as she said, has recently received many hate messages and threats, to such an extent that she had never experienced before.

“As head of government, of course you need to have a high level of tolerance, but there are comments with such violent content that no one should tolerate them,” he said.

He has shared some of the comments he has received, suggesting that others might find the courage to do the same, so that Danes can openly discuss style and manners of dialogue.
