Denmark is ending vaccination against coronavirus

“Spring has come, the vaccinations of the Danish population are high and the epidemic has subsided,” said the Danish Health Authority. According to official figures in Denmark, 89 percent of people over the age of 12 have received two doses, and 76 percent of adults have received a booster dose. Almost half of children aged five to 11 have one vaccination dose, a third already have two.

The health office said in a statement to Fortune magazine that the epidemic in the country was favorable. “Therefore, we can close the vaccination program for spring and summer, which means that we no longer send out invitations to vaccinations,” the office said. However, people from at-risk groups continue to recommend vaccination, and the most at-risk patients are entitled to a fourth dose of the vaccine.

Maybe again in the fall

The Office does not rule out that, if necessary, it will resume vaccination before the arrival of autumn, when respiratory diseases are expected to increase.

At the beginning of February, Denmark was the first country in the European Union to repeal virtually all anti-coronavirus measures. This has happened in a situation where tens of thousands of people infected with the omicron variant have been added to the country every day, but the authorities have come to the conclusion that this variant, unlike the previous ones, does not mean such a burden on the health system.

According to the Danish Institute of Health on Thursday, 1,088 new cases of coronavirus have increased in the country of 5.9 million in the last 24 hours, and 88 people have become infected repeatedly. 685 people are treated in hospitals with covid-19, ten of them in intensive care units.
