Denmark halts vaccination with AstraZeneca due to possible …

Denmark is suspending vaccination with AstraZeneca for at least two weeks due to possible side effects. The Danish Health Institute decided this on Thursday. Austria, Estonia, Lithuania, Luxembourg and Latvia have also partially discontinued the use of AstraZeneca.

The suspension comes after multiple cases of blood clots were reported in several countries. That would also be the case with one person in Denmark. Suspicious death has also been reported. The European Medicines Agency EMA has started an investigation. In our country, pharmaceutical agency FAMHP is not yet making a decision.

“Our health authorities have stopped vaccination with AstraZeneca following a signal of a potentially serious side effect in the form of fatal blood clots,” said Danish Health Minister Magnus Heunicke. ‘At the moment we cannot say with certainty whether there is a connection with the vaccine, but we intervene early because this needs to be thoroughly investigated.’
