Denmark ends the extra border controls that the country had in place because of the controversial Koran burnings. According to the security services, additional checks are no longer necessary.
Denmark tightened border controls on August 10 over concerns about the Quran burnings. According to the Danish judiciary, the burnings led to a deteriorated security situation.
The police therefore received more powers to stop people and to search cars when people crossed the border from Germany and Sweden.
Now the country is reversing the extra border controls. According to the security services, the measure is no longer necessary. Border controls will return to normal from Wednesday.
The Koran burnings in Denmark and Sweden sparked anger and protests in Islamic countries. Sweden raised its terror threat level to its second-highest level last week.
