Denmark: Recommends raising the abortion limit to 18 weeks
The majority in the Danish Ethics Council recommends raising the abortion limit to 18 weeks. This is reported by DR. 15-17-year-old girls should also be able to have an abortion without their parents’ consent, the council believes. Today, the limit for free abortion in Denmark is 12 weeks.
– The most important argument is that women themselves are given the opportunity to make a decision right up to the 18th week, and have plenty of time to think about it, says the leader of the council, Leif Vestergaard.
The council has considered the abortion limit because it is 50 years since free abortion was introduced in Denmark, and because the debate about the abortion limit is taking place in other European countries.
In connection with the 12-week limit being introduced 50 years ago, both politicians and experts have stated that they want to raise the limit to 18 weeks, write DR.
