In response to the airspace violation, Denmark has launched jet fighters into the air on Friday, the Ritzau news agency reported.
“It is completely unacceptable that Russian planes violated Danish airspace, even twice in one day,” Danish Foreign Minister Jepe Kofod said on Twitter.
The repeated violation of airspace gives the impression of “intentional action”, the minister added.
“We continue to evaluate the details, but I have taken the initiative to summon the Russian ambassador to the Foreign Ministry for talks,” Kofod said.
The airspace violations took place over the island of Bornholm, which is located in the Baltic Sea south of Sweden.
“It is very rare for us to encounter this type of Danish airspace violation, so two cases in one day should be taken very seriously,” Rinza Bramsen, Minister of Defense, told Ritzau.
Russia has violated Danish airspace several times in previous years, but in 2020, Russian fighter Su-27, which had followed the US bomber B52, flew into the high Danish airspace over Bornholm.
