Denise Betsema and Yara Kastelijn had divided the previous crosses between themselves and the Dutch riders also stood out today.
Fem van Empel was the first to throw the bat into the henhouse, after which a leading group of about 4 ladies was formed. A strong Puck Pieterse, Denise Betsema, Yara Kastelijn and Annemarie Worst were able to hook up their wagon at the front.
Slowly but surely Annemarie Worst had to let the leading group go. The Dutch was only ready for her 1st cross of the season.
It was mainly Betsema who led the forcing. In the very last lap, the winner of Lokeren placed the ultimate acceleration. Kastelijn and Pieterse crossed the line not much later. 2 out of 3 for Denise Betsema.
Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado had a hard time with her reappearance. She eventually finished 9th.
By the way, don’t look for another flag than the Dutch one in the top 10. The Dutch women dominated again today.
