Denis Villeneuve doubts whether his own ‘Dune’ has succeeded

Denis Villeneuve took on a particularly difficult task, namely filming Dune by writer Frank Herbert. Two previous attempts (from David Lynch on Alejandro Jodorowsky) certainly did not succeed.

From the receipt of Dune it turns out that many can appreciate Villeneuve’s film, although the film feels a bit like a complete story. That is not very strange, because the film misses about half of the story. It is striking that Villeneuve is not sure whether he has succeeded with his film.

Passed or failed?
During the Happy Sad Confused postcast, Villeneuve said he wasn’t entirely sure whether he succeeded in turning Herbert’s book into a movie.

“If I were talking to Lynch, I’d rather talk to him about painting than Dune. I don’t expect to have the chance to share the experience,” Villeneuve began talking about a possible conversation with Lynch who also has a career as an artist.

“I don’t know if I passed. I’m very close to the film I made and I’m proud of the film. But it’s up to other people to judge. For me, it’s about the result and the process.”

In that respect, Villeneuve clearly thinks he has succeeded. The film is already in theaters.
