Gynecologist Denis Mukwege, 68, traveled to Angers (Maine-et-Loire) on Friday, October 6, to inaugurate the maternity building of the university hospital center (CHU) which now bears his name.

And it’s an understatement to say that he knows the place and recognizes the smiles of those who welcome him on this beautiful sunny morning. The man who obtained his doctorate in medicine in 1983 at the University of Burundi arrived in Angers in 1984 to train in obstetrics and gynecology. He remained there until 1989.
