Denigrating comments about Pierre Kompany: three Belgians living in Congo expelled by local authorities

Foreign Affairs declined to comment on the decision, saying it is “a private matter”.

TBelgian kings residing in the Congo have been expelled by local authorities to Belgium, according to information confirmed by Foreign Affairs. They arrived last week, according to the spokesperson for Belgian diplomacy, Arnaud Gaspard. They were arrested last June in the DRC, suspected of having made disparaging remarks about the mayor of Ganshoren Pierre Kompany, of Congolese origin.

“They were expelled by administrative decision of the Congolese authorities. Our (Belgian) posts on site were aware of this, ”explains Mr. Gaspard. Foreign Affairs declined to comment on the decision, saying it is “a private matter”.

Several local media reported in late June that between three and six Belgians had been arrested in the DRC, suspected of having made disparaging remarks about Pierre Kompany. The latter recently said that Belgium should apologize for its colonial past, a position that went badly with Belgians living there and who made it known on social networks.
