What is dengue?

Dengue is an infectious disease that develops mainly in hot and tropical areas, as in northern Peru, it also develops in stagnant waters. This disease is caused by a virus of the flavirus family and is transmitted after the mosquito bites a sick person and then infects a healthy person.

This disease can be fatal if you do not receive medical attention, also if you already have the symptoms it is essential not to self-medicate.

Dengue Symptoms

In some cases, the symptoms of dengue are imperceptible, but in others it can present as a common flu and if discomfort is caused they must be taken care of quickly. Among those that may occur:

  • High fever
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Rash on the skin
  • Blood in the gums and nose
  • General weakness
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Pain in the abdomen
  • Bruises on the skin
  • Respiration problems

How many types of dengue exist?

The classic dengue is the one that does not usually present many complications because the organism tends to recover completely with proper care.

Severe dengue (previously known as hemorrhagic dengue), this type of disease is a serious manifestation and can cause the death of the patient. Tachycardia, bone pain, bleeding, blood pressure disturbance, circulatory insufficiency or dehydration may occur.

Dengue treatment and prevention

Although there is no exact treatment for this disease, symptoms can only be controlled by maintaining good serum hydration and under medical supervision with pain relievers.

For prevention, it is essential to wash the containers where water is stored and use airtight lids or plastic bags. In order to prevent mosquitoes from depositing their eggs in this way, cans, tires and bottles where rainwater can be empowered must also be eliminated.
