The Jombang District Health Service recorded that as of Saturday 24 February 2024, of the hundreds of cases of dengue virus infection (IVD), 5 patients positive for dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) had died.
Acting Head of the Health Service, Syaiful Anwar, said that this year’s recorded IVD cases had increased compared to last year’s 130 cases, while in 2022 there were 117 cases.
“Of the 331 IVD cases spread across all sub-districts in Jombang, the dengue fever patients who died were in the Sumobito, Peterongan, Mojoagung and Jombang sub-districts,” he explained, Thursday (22/2/2024).
Syaiful said that the increase in IVD cases, including dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD), dengue fever (DD) and suspected dengue fever, occurred due to several factors. Among them, the increasing activity of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito which causes the dengue virus during the rainy season, then the low level of public awareness to eradicate mosquito nests (PSN) independently.

“It is the responsibility of all of us, both the Health Department and society in general, to increase awareness of PSN. What is clear is that the mosquito larvae-free rate is still below 90 percent. This 10 percent is what causes the increase in IVD cases, and this is our basis for further optimizing PSN ,” said Syaiful.
Furthermore, there is still a need to improve people’s clean and healthy lifestyle behavior. “This is our tough task, in providing guidance and assistance in the community regarding clean and healthy lifestyles,” he said.
He appealed to the public to always be aware of the spread of diseases caused by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.
