Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Cases on the Rise in Jakarta and Situbondo: 3 Children Die at Regional Hospitals

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SITUBONDO – The management of Dr. Abdoer Rahem Regional Hospital, Situbondo Regency, East Java, recorded that there were nine patients during the week in the period 1-7 May 2024. hemorrhagic fever dengue fever or dengue hospitalization. Three of the child patients died.

RSUD director Dr. Abdoer Rahem Situbondo Dr. Roekmy Prabarini Ario said three patients with dengue fever who died, each eight years old.

“These three pediatric dengue fever patients were admitted to Dr. Abdoer Rahem Regional Hospital with their conditions in the dengue shock syndrome (DSS) category or already severe,” he said, in Situbondo, on Tuesday (7/5/2024).

According to Roekmy, three patients died of dengue fever on 2, 3 and 4 May 2024. Each one came from Anchor District, Panji District and Situbondo District.

To date, a number of patients with dengue hemorrhagic fever are hospitalized, and the average patient is children aged 8 to 14 years. “There is another pediatric dengue patient whose condition is not good at the moment in the intensive care unit and who needs special treatment or intensive care unit (ICU),” he said.

In April, Dr. Roekmy said that the regional government hospital was also treating 91 patients with dengue fever. “However, even though 91 patients with dengue fever were treated in the previous month, no patients died,” he said.

Data from the Situbondo District Health Service shows that residents with dengue hemorrhagic fever or DHF continue to increase and from January to April 2024 there have been approximately 450 cases.

Cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever have increased significantly, in 33 cases in January, 94 cases in February, 142 cases in March and 181 cases in April.
