Palu (ANTARA) – The Health Office of Palu City, Central Sulawesi handled 371 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) from January to August 21 2023 in the region.
“For DHF until August 2023, the cumulative positive cases of DHF were 371 cases and three people died,” said Head of Disease Prevention and Management and Environmental Health Sitti Rachmah in Palu, Wednesday.
He said the three people who died were two people from East Palu District and one person from Tatanga District, and his party was still handling and treating several patients who were exposed to DHF.
According to him, currently Palu City is one of the endemic areas for DHF because the Aedes Aegypti mosquito lives and develops in densely populated areas or urban areas. Meanwhile in the capital city of Central Sulawesi itself, all sub-districts have been identified as having DHF cases.
Dengue cases, he said, had increased significantly in 2023 compared to the previous year.
“The development of DHF cases during 2023 has increased significantly. For example, in January 2022 there were 21 cases of DHF, but in January this year there were 55 cases,” he said.
He said the number of DHF cases in the period from January to December 2022 was 640 cases, while for the period from January to August this year there were 371 cases.
Of the 371 cases recorded, South Palu District was the highest area with the disease, with 103 cases. Then followed by Mantikulore District with 59 cases, West Palu with 50 cases, East Palu with 47 cases, North Palu with 39 cases, Ulujadi 19 and Tawaeli eight cases.
As a form of intervention, he said, each Puskesmas in each sub-district has a mobile health team (Kesling) whose job is to provide abatization or administer abate powder to places that are stagnant with water, including bathtubs, places with stagnant water, and so on with the aim of killing larvae. – Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae.
In addition, his party also conducts routine outreach to the public to implement the 3M movement, namely draining water reservoirs, closing water reservoirs, and burying used goods.
He also asked all people to keep their environment clean and always be vigilant against dengue fever mosquitoes.
“If there are people who experience health problems or experience symptoms of DHF, immediately go to the nearest health center so they can get health care,” he said.
