TRIBUNJABAR.ID, CIMAHI – Dangue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) began to threaten the residents of Cimahi City during the rainy season at the beginning of 2024 because the rain that often falls in this area triggers waterlogging.
The presence of standing water usually becomes a nest for the Aedes aegypti mosquito and this has been proven because dozens of residents in Cimahi City were attacked by dengue fever during January 2024, so the public is asked to be alert.
Head of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Division, Cimahi City Health Service, Dwihadi Isnalini, said, as of January 17 2024 there had been 42 cases of dengue fever in Cimahi City, whereas in January 2023 there were only 30 cases.
“So dengue fever cases are experiencing an increase at the beginning of 2024, dominated by children aged 5-14 years and followed by adults aged 15-44 years,” he said when contacted, Thursday (18/1/2024).
However, his party ensured that of the total of 42 dengue fever cases recorded until mid-January, no one had died, but all residents must remain alert and take precautions.
“The reason for the large number of dengue fever cases is because the rainfall is erratic, so it can leave standing water which becomes a place for mosquitoes to nest,” said Dwihadi.
Due to this, his party asked the public to eradicate mosquito nests (PSN) and implement 3M and reduce storage of clothes by hanging them.
“Then anticipate using a mosquito net when sleeping and using mosquito repellent in the house,” he said.
Apart from that, people are also advised to plant plants that can repel mosquitoes such as lavender flowers, siri leaves and mint leaves because all these plants can repel mosquitoes that spread dengue fever.
Not only plants, people can also keep betta fish, tilapia, goldfish, and so on in water reservoirs that are difficult to reach because these types of fish will inhibit the reproduction of Aedes aegypty mosquito larvae.
“So these fish can certainly be used to prevent mosquitoes from breeding from their larvae,” said Dwihadi.
