KORAN GALA – Dengue hemorrhagic fever or DHF, which often has no symptoms at first, makes many people fooled into thinking that the fever has healed on the third day.
“That’s what is often deceptive, when you don’t have a fever on the third day you think you’re healthy, even though it’s critical,” said a pediatrician at Hermina Jatinegara Hospital. Dr. Kanya Ayu Paramastri Sp.A. in a discussion about dengue fever in Jakarta, Sunday 5 November 2023.
Kanya explained that dengue infection has a typical symptom pattern, namely like a horse’s saddle, with fever in the first three days seeming very common, similar to a normal fever infection, namely fever, aches and pain in the eyes.
However, after more than three days, the fever can go down, but there are signs of weakness, no appetite and if you are at risk of dengue fever with bleeding, red spots, nosebleeds and bleeding gums will appear.

Kanya explained that the bleeding occurred because platelet levels, which should protect blood vessels, became increasingly weakened due to dengue fever infection.
Apart from that, fever caused by the dengue virus carried by mosquitoes can also affect other body organs such as the brain which will cause a decrease in consciousness if not treated immediately.
Apart from that, a clean environment is not necessarily free from mosquitoes that carry dengue disease that live in the home environment.
“In a clean environment, there are still Aedes aegypti mosquitoes at home and albopictus in nature (outside the house). Mosquitoes like them on top of the refrigerator, dispenser, air conditioner, house pots and dirty clothes hanging in a pile in the corner,” said the doctor who is active on social media. This.

This doctor, who graduated as a pediatric specialist at the University of Indonesia, said that the 3M plus movement and vaccines are effective ways to reduce the number of dengue cases.
He said the dengue fever vaccine is highly recommended by the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) for every child aged 6-18 years, whether they have had dengue fever or not.
“So, it is recommended that all children aged 6-18 years old, whether they have had dengue fever or not, are still given the dengue vaccine twice, with a gap of 3 months,” he said.
Children who are vaccinated must be healthy and not have acute infectious diseases such as diarrhea. Apart from that, the dengue fever vaccine also has no side effects so it is safe for children and they can do activities immediately after the vaccine.

Meanwhile, children who have chronic diseases such as HIV, kidney failure, or conditions that reduce their immune system should consult a pediatrician first.
The dengue fever vaccine can also be done at the same time as other vaccines according to the doctor’s direction.
Meanwhile prevention with 3M is draining water reservoirs, closing water reservoirs and recycling and burying objects that can become mosquito nests and using anti-mosquito protection such as lotion and bed nets. ***
