Dengue Fever Plague in Situbondo, Hundreds of People Infected in the Last 3 Months

SITUBONDO, FactualNews.co – Dengue fever or DHF (Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever) is endemic in Situbondo Regency. Recorded from January to mid-March 2021 as many as 223 people have contracted dengue. Most of them are children.

From that figure, according to records from the Situbondo District Health Office, 3 people were declared dead while 14 people are currently still being treated at Dr. Abdoer Rahem Situbondo General Hospital.

Acting Head of the Health Office of Situbondo Regency through the Section Head for Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, Heryawan, said the number of dengue sufferers had increased by 100 percent more than in the same period the previous year.

“In 2020, as many as 108 people contracted the dengue disease, 1 of whom died. Meanwhile, this year there were 223 people recorded, 3 of whom died, “Heryawan said, Sunday (28/3/2021).

According to him, the trend of dengue fever sufferers in mid-March 2021 tends to increase compared to the same period in 2020. It happened due to weather factors and high rainfall in Situbondo.

“In fact, the average DHF sufferers are toddlers and children, there are also adults. Therefore, for the epidemic of dengue fever, currently the Health Office continues to promote the Situbondo Movement of Larva Free or Swift Batik, to suppress dengue sufferers, “he explained.

Heryawan added, to reduce the number of dengue fever, it must start from the awareness of the community itself, through the Gesit Batik program it is hoped that it can make people aware of the importance of maintaining cleanliness in their respective environments.

“Apart from promoting the Gesit Batik program, to reduce the spread of diseases caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, we are also promoting the 3M Plus movement in Situbondo Regency,” he explained.

Furthermore, Heryawan added, for the outbreak of dengue fever sufferers in Situbondo, his party asked the entire Situbondo community to report to the Situbondo Health Office and to the nearest Puskesmas, if there is a DHF incident to do fogging or fumigation.

“The purpose of fogging is to kill the mosquito larvae that cause DHF,” he concluded.
