Dengue Fever Cases Soaring in Laos: Latest News and Prevention Tips

Latest News, InternationalThe struggle against the spread of the dengue virus in Laos continues as the number of dengue fever cases continues to soar.

According to a report issued by the Center for Health Information and Education under the Lao Ministry of Health on Wednesday, cases of dengue fever in Laos have risen to 6,488 with one death since January.

As reported by Xinhua Newsthe highest number of dengue cases was reported in Oudomxay Province with 1,396 cases, while in Khammuan Province with 1,016 cases, and Xayaboury Province with 552 cases.

The Lao Ministry of Health appealed to people across the country to remain vigilant, especially during the rainy season, when dengue-carrying mosquitoes multiply due to stagnant water around them.

Lao health authorities continue to encourage the public to clean up potential mosquito breeding grounds around their homes and workplaces to help curb the spread of dengue fever. These activities, which focus on long-term prevention, are critical to fighting this disease.

In particular, people must keep their surroundings clean while doing everything possible to eradicate mosquitoes and their larvae, which means ensuring that no standing water is allowed to collect.

The authorities have raised public awareness about this issue as one of the main strategies to control dengue transmission.

Schools, hospitals, factories, hotels, restaurants, tourist facilities and offices are encouraged to carry out cleaning activities to remove stagnant water, in order to slow down the breeding of mosquitoes.

Village heads, associations, charities and monks also play an important role in the fight against dengue fever, according to the report.

The health ministry advises anyone with a high fever, headache or muscle aches to visit a hospital for advice and treatment.

Laos has largely prevented deaths from dengue fever in recent years through improved diagnosis and treatment of the disease in hospitals and dispensaries.

The Lao Ministry of Health has vowed to continue building the capacity of doctors and nurses, aiming to improve health services in the crucial battle against dengue fever.
