Sentani (ANTARA) – The Jayapura Papua Regency Health Service (Dinkes) noted that there has been a decline in Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases in the area since 2023.
Secretary of the Jayapura District Health Service, Edward Sihotang, when contacted by ANTARA in Sentani Monday, said that the number of dengue fever cases last year was dozens, and only one case resulted in death.
“The dengue fever case occurred in early 2023, causing one toddler to die, but after that immediate preventive measures were taken,” he said.
He explained that after this case occurred, Jayapura Regency had not been declared an extraordinary case (KLB) but was alert.
“The steps we took at that time were territorial or district fogging, not focused fogging to prevent the life of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito,” he said.
Fogging or fumigation to kill the development of dengue fever mosquitoes (Aedes Aegypti) was carried out in East Sentani, Sentani and Waibhu Districts.
“After we carried out territorial fogging with a circular signed by the regional secretary, cases immediately dropped or disappeared in Jayapura Regency until now,” he said.
Edward Sihotang added, to prevent cases of dengue fever from appearing again and causing sufferers to die, among other things, by providing rapid dengue test kits which will be available from the end of 2023 to the beginning of 2024.
“Usually this case occurs at the beginning of January and March. With the support of this tool, patients who come with a fever that is difficult to differentiate will be tested for malaria, if they are negative, the leukocytes are below 1,000, and there is no infection, then we immediately do a dengue screening. “So if it is obtained sooner, treatment will be fast and death will be avoided,” he said.
